College Students Team Up with Better Angels and ACTA to Lead Depolarization Debate on Health Care

October 2, 2018 by ACTA

WASHINGTON, DC—Students for Free Expression at American University announced that it is partnering with Better Angels and the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) to host a series of parliamentary-style depolarization debates respecting all viewpoints and opinions.

The debates are student-led and open to faculty and the public. For the first debate on October 4, AU students crafted the resolution: Healthcare is a Human Right. “Our goal is to bring students and from all sides of the political spectrum together in civil discourse and conversation,” says Daniel Acosta-Rivas, an American University student and local chapter leader of Students for Free Expression.

“We resonate strongly with the mission of Better Angels,” says ACTA’s communications director Doug Sprei. “These debates bring out the best in students—as well as faculty and citizens—and they offer a refreshing view to the nation that depolarization is possible, and that viewpoint diversity and free expression can flourish on college campuses.”
