You are correct that some universities are not offering the courses that students need to graduate (editorial, Aug. 26). One reason is that faculties and administrations seem more interested in meeting the needs of professors.
Faculty are being permitted to teach their pet subjects instead of the fundamentals that should be required of all students. If universities are in decline, perhaps it is time to re-establish true core curriculums–foundational courses that students must take and professors must teach.
