WASHINGTON, DC—The American Council of Trustees and Alumni will host a panel on Saturday, June 13, 2009 on bridging the gap between governing boards and faculty at the American Association of University Professors’ conference, held in conjunction with the AAUP’s annual meeting, June 11-14.
The discussion will center on how faculty and trustees can work together to tackle the pressing matters of cost, educational quality, and accountability in a manner that respects academic freedom and avoids micromanagement.
The panel entitled “Reaching Across the Aisle: Bridging the Gap Between Governing Boards and Academics” will feature:
— Harry R. Lewis, Harvard professor and former dean of Harvard College
— Peter D. Salins, professor at SUNY-Stony Brook and former provost of the SUNY system
— Arthur J. Rothkopf, trustee of American University and former president of Lafayette College
— Anne D. Neal, ACTA president and First Amendment lawyer
The panel will be held Saturday, June 13th from 1:35 to 3:05 in the Congressional room of the Omni Shoreham Hotel, 2500 Calvert St. NW, Washington, DC.
